A cotton string sleeve stuffed with raffia touching upon themes of gluttony as well as questions regarding the role of the consumer vs consumed.

The sleeve is created on a hand-operated, flat bed knitting machine. Next steps involve further investigation into the nature of the sleeve.

I picked up a random quarter sawn log on a dog walk one day with the intention of using it for carving practice. In it, there was an exposed internal knot which grabbed my attention. I was drawn into the beauty of its curved forms as well as the apparent inversion of interior and exterior. I was also struck by what it represented as evidence of an extreme act of healing.

My goal with this piece is to carve away the outer mass in order to highlight, reveal, and celebrate the inner core. Ultimately, I will also investigate the nature of the 'skin' by exploring methods of ornamentation. In this case, it would act as an allegory for notions of inward and outward self.

Untitled, 2022

Feather and wire exploration for large scale sculpture loosely inspired by Ruth Asawa's process, primarily in the sense that the linear line is hand manipulated by loops to create three dimensional form. Line to form. In this case, with the addition of hand knotted feathers.
