Internalized (in process), 2022
While on a dog walk, I came across a quarter sawn log and decided to use it for carving practice. As I examined the log, my attention was drawn to an exposed internal knot. The intricate swirling patterns and the reversal of interior and exterior fascinated me. I was also struck by the knot as evidence of an extreme act of healing.
With this piece, I aim to highlight and celebrate the inner core by carefully carving away the outer mass. I also plan to explore various methods of ornamentation to investigate the nature of the 'skin.' Through this process, I hope to create an allegory that reflects the complexities of our inward and outward selves.
