In process.
While on a dog walk, I came across a quarter sawn log and decided to use it for carving practice. As I examined the log, my attention was drawn to an exposed internal knot. The intricate swirling patterns and the reversal of interior and exterior fascinated me. I was also struck by the knot as evidence of an extreme act of healing.
With this piece, my goal is to highlight and celebrate the inner core by carefully carving away the outer mass. I also plan to explore various methods of ornamentation to investigate the nature of the 'skin.' Through this process, I hope to create an allegory that reflects the complexities of our inward and outward selves.
